"Forgery of Entirely Elsewhere" is based on large amounts of improvised or spontaneous but not free raw material, all intended from the outset to be edited into sections of widely varying lengths, and recombined by chance in a statistical manner. What goes in is what comes out, not in the same order.
Many sections retain a flow and progression that hasn't been disrupted. Other passages shape an abundant range of color, like swatches of cloth bent, lined, and sewn into shoulders and waistlines. Some degree of orderly progression is baked into the source sounds, the lengths they are cut into, and in rhythms and proportions that reappear and develop across distinct stacks of material.
All sounds were generated using digital instruments described below, of my own design, made possible with the benefit of all the wonderful off-the-shelf library items that are now available.
* FM/AM/filter mod matrix with abundant sequencers and clock dividers.
* Instrument that scans raw FFT spectrum data from the land where frequency is time. It can produce convincingly natural or uncanny scrapes, bumps, bowed objects, etc.
* Multiple, cross-fading granulator ensemble. Much of the source sound is drawn from the above, as well as live guitar, bass, hand percussion, and a specific variety of other selected raw sound samples.
The cover image is a amalgamation based on collaboration with Dall-E. I gave Dall-E prompts that suggest several layers of falsity, using language like "counterfeit version of a forgery of". Dall-E warned me not to continue this line of suspicous prompts.
